ESL Set to Host Dota 2 Major in Malaysia this August

ESL One Malaysia 2022: A Non-DPC Major is Back!

ESL is bringing back its non-Dota Pro Circuit tournaments with ESL One Malaysia 2022. After the regular season for the DPC ends, players will have the chance to compete in one of the first Major Dota LAN tournaments in years.

Details of the Event

From August 23 to 28, ESL One Malaysia 2022 will take place at the Arena of Stars at Resorts World Genting. The tournament offers a prize pool of $400,000.

Marking ESL’s Return to Malaysia

This event marks ESL’s return to Malaysia for the first time since ESL One Genting 2018. It is also the first non-DPC Major hosted by the tournament organizer since August 2021. Additionally, it is the first LAN event in that category since ESL One Hamburg 2019. Recently, ESL hosted the Stockholm Major, which was part of the 2022 DPC season and their first LAN event in over two years.

About the Tournament Format

In ESL One Malaysia 2022, a total of 12 teams will be attending. Seven teams will receive direct invitations, while the remaining five spots will be awarded through qualifiers for China, Southeast Asia, North America, South America, and the combined European region.

The event will follow ESL’s standard bracket layout, starting with a round-robin group stage. The top eight teams from the group stage will move on to the playoffs on August 26. The playoffs will be a double-elimination, best-of-three contest, with the grand finals being a best-of-five.

More details about the event will be revealed later this summer as the DPC season comes to a close. Teams will find out if they can freely attend or if they need to prioritize preparing for The International 11 qualifiers.
