Elephant Ends Dota 2 Division, Cancels Contracts of Remaining Players

Elephant Dota 2 Roster Released After Disappointing Season

Elephant’s Dota 2 team has been labeled inactive and all players have been released after a disappointing season. The team failed to come together and generate results, leading to Elephant’s decision to move on from the entire roster.

High Hopes for Elephant’s Entry into Dota

Elephant’s entry into Dota was expected to bring about a new super team in the Chinese region. However, the team failed to perform and meet expectations. As a result, Elephant decided to invest in rebuilding their roster.

Struggles in the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit Season

Despite performing well in Chinese events, Elephant was unable to qualify for the major tournaments during the 2021 Dota Pro Circuit season. They also underperformed in TI10, finishing in 13th place. Disappointingly, Elephant’s plans to support the roster for another year turned out to be false.

Elephant’s Roster Changes and Potential Deals with Team Aster

Instead of supporting the existing roster, Elephant reportedly planned to change their lineup. They were in discussions with notable players like xNova and flyfly. However, it appears that the deals fell through, and Elephant later considered a transfer deal with Team Aster.

A leaked conversation suggested that the potential deal would revolve around building a team around Somnus, a player of interest for Aster’s owner.

Elephant Dissolves Dota Team

After extended discussions with players and staff, Elephant decided to dissolve the Dota team. This has resulted in almost every player becoming a free agent again. The contracts of Eurus, coach rOtK, Somnus, Yang, and fy were terminated. The only player remaining is Super, who will rejoin his original organization.

Elephant terminated the contracts as a favor to the players and to facilitate their search for new teams for the next DPC season. However, several Elephant players are still stuck in Romania due to COVID-related travel restrictions. The organization is making efforts to ensure their safe return home.

It remains uncertain whether Elephant will re-enter the Dota 2 competitive scene in the future. Nevertheless, the release of Elephant’s roster has injected top-tier talent into China’s free agent market, which is likely to be quickly snapped up before the upcoming 2022 DPC season.
