Dota 2’s TI11 Surpasses $11 Million in Prize Pool, Closing in on TI10’s Record

The International 2022 Prize Pool on Track to Break Records

The prize pool for The International 2022 has reached over $11 million, but sales for the battle pass have slowed down. As a result, the upcoming tournament is currently $2 million behind the record-breaking pace set by TI10.

After 13 days and over eight hours, the prize pool for TI11 stands at $11,091,022. This includes $9,491,022 from battle pass sales, along with Valve’s base contribution of $1.6 million. According to Esports Earnings, this makes TI11 the ninth-largest esports tournament in terms of prize pool. However, it is unlikely to surpass TI10’s record.

Breaking a Tradition of Growth

Since its inception in 2011, each subsequent iteration of The International has surpassed the previous tournament’s prize pool. This pattern has also resulted in each TI event breaking the record for the largest esports prize pool ever, including TI10’s groundbreaking $40 million prize pool from last year.

However, TI11’s battle pass has faced criticism because it started later than usual and is divided into two parts, with one part not supporting the event at all. As a result, it is highly probable that TI11 will not continue the tradition of breaking records.

Challenges Ahead for TI11

If Valve does not inject new life into the battle pass in the coming weeks, TI11’s prize pool growth may stall and be surpassed by TI7 and TI8 by early October. To prevent this, Valve is likely to release new Level Bundles soon. Even without that boost, sales would have to decline further and not receive any bumps for previous events to catch up.

A Race Against Time for TI11

TI11 still has a chance to catch up to TI10 or even TI9 before Part I of the battle pass ends on November 2. However, at the current rate, TI9 might surpass TI11 before the week is over.

Overall, not much has changed since the prize pool reached $10 million on September 9. Without additional work or surprise content drops in the next month, it is unlikely that TI11 will break any records.
