Dota 2’s TI11 Prize Pool Exceeds $7 Million, Behind TI9 and TI10 in Early Figures

The International 2022 Prize Pool Surpasses $7 Million in 24 Hours

The prize pool for The International 2022 has officially reached over $7 million in just over 24 hours since the release of the 2022 Dota 2 battle pass. However, this isn’t the first time Valve has seen this level of success. It also happened in 2019 and 2021.

TI11 Battle Pass Climbing the Ranks

The TI11 battle pass is already ranked as the 11th highest esports prize pool of all time. According to Esports Earnings, it is projected to easily break into the top 10 by next week. However, it is expected to fall short of the prize pools of the previous two TIs.

As of 7pm CT on Sept. 2, TI11 has a prize pool of $7,152,714 and continues to increase. This includes Valve’s base total of $1.6 million and the contributed $5,552,714 from 25 percent of total battle pass spending. By comparison, TI9 had $7.58 million and TI10 had over $8.3 million at the same time period.

Time is of the Essence

The issue lies in the amount of time left on the clock. While TI9 and TI10 had months to build momentum, TI11 only launched on Sept. 1 and won’t have as much time to do so. The 2022 battle pass is split into two parts, and only the first part contributes to the prize pool. Part I will end on Nov. 2, just a few days after TI11 ends on Oct. 30. This means TI11 only has two full months to keep up with its predecessors.

There is a Part II for the battle pass, but it has no incentives for the competitive community. It will launch on Nov. 3 and run through Jan. 12.

Can TI11 Surpass TI9?

While there is still a chance that TI11 could surpass TI9 for the second-largest esports prize pool of all time, it would require a significant increase in sales for multiple weeks. If this doesn’t happen, Dota’s streak of breaking records with each TI will come to an end with TI10.
