Dota 2’s The International 10 Breaks Esports Record in the CIS with 2.7 Million Peak Viewers

The International 10 Sees Record-Breaking Viewership and Prize Pool

Team Spirit emerged victorious at The International 10, showcasing an impressive lower bracket run that included surprising upsets against top teams. They claimed the majority of the massive $40 million prize pool.

The event not only broke records in terms of prize money, but also in viewership. The finals between Spirit and PSG.LGD peaked at over 2.7 million viewers, setting a new record for TI viewership. This marked a 37% increase from TI9, which had a peak of 1.9 million viewers during OG’s clash with Team Liquid, as reported by Esports Charts.

Spirit’s incredible run also captivated Eastern European fans, with the grand finals boasting 1.2 million concurrent viewers across all Russian-speaking streams. This set a new record for CIS viewership and became the most popular esports event ever for the region, with 41.2 million hours watched.

The peak viewership of 1.2 million for CIS streams surpassed the peak of one million viewers on the English stream.

In terms of general viewership peaks, TI10 reached 1.7 million viewers on Twitch, over 662,400 on YouTube, and 114,000 concurrent viewers on Facebook Gaming, according to Esports Charts. DotaTV also contributed around 188,000 concurrent viewers during the grand finals, surpassing its previous record set during TI8 with 186,000 viewers.

Spirit was undoubtedly the most popular team throughout TI10, attracting 33% of the total hours watched during the entire event, totaling 34.9 million hours. They also held the highest average viewership at around 798,000 viewers per match.

Overall, TI10 generated a staggering 107.2 million hours watched from October 7th to 17th, a significant increase of nearly 20 million hours compared to TI9. The event averaged 857,343 viewers throughout its 125-hour run-time, up from the 738,873 average viewers of TI9’s 120 hours.

The two-year gap between TI9 and TI10 clearly heightened the anticipation among fans worldwide. Viewership numbers across the board increased, with prime-time viewers jumping by 30 to 35 percent.
