Hoodwink: The Newest Hero to Join Dota 2
The International 10 may have been postponed, but that hasn’t stopped Dota 2 fans from eagerly anticipating the game’s yearly, meta-defining patch. Originally set for release in November, the new hero was delayed until December. However, it seems that the hero couldn’t wait any longer. Valve recently announced that the next patch, including the new hero, will be going live on December 17.
The newest hero to join Dota 2 is Hoodwink, an agility hero who bears a striking resemblance to Windranger in terms of fashion sense. According to Dota2.com, Hoodwink is classified as a “ranged, nuker, escape, disabler,” which are the core characteristics of a hero.
Take a look at Hoodwink’s skills:
- Acorn Shot: Fires Hoodwink’s attack at the target unit, bouncing to nearby targets and slowing them. If point targeted, it creates a tree at the target position.
- Bushwack: Tosses a net trap that stuns enemy heroes who are near a tree in the area. Affected enemies take damage and are pulled toward the nearest tree, losing vision.
- Scurry: Passively evades physical attacks while near trees. When activated, Hoodwink gains bonus movement speed, phased collision, and tree-walking.
- Sharpshooter: Charges up and fires a deadly bolt that deals heavy damage, slow, and Break to an enemy hero. The damage and debuff duration increase as you charge Sharpshooter.
From her spell-kit, it’s clear that Hoodwink shares similarities with Windranger. Both Acorn Shot and Scurry bear resemblance to Windranger’s Shackleshot and Windrun. However, Hoodwink’s ultimate ability, Sharpshooter, seems to be more focused on teamfight impact.
Judging by her abilities, Hoodwink appears to be a formidable ganker, especially against fragile support heroes. Her mobility and lockdown make it crucial to control her during the early game, possibly by camping runes.
