Concerns arise among Dota 2 fans for 2023 DPC as PGL maintains production rights amid issues at The International.

Dota 2’s The International 2022: PGL’s Performance and DPC Rights

This year, PGL hosted Dota 2’s The International 2022, a well-known name in the esports LAN event scene. However, there were several production failures that negatively affected the overall quality of TI11.

PGL Snatches DPC Rights for Western Europe and North America

Despite the issues at TI11, PGL managed to secure the rights for the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) in Western Europe and North America, a significant achievement for the production firm.

PGL to Host DPC 2022-2023 Winter, Spring, and Summer Tours

PGL will host DPC 2022-2023 Winter, Spring, and Summer Tours for WEU and NA. The Open Qualifiers registrations are now available!

PGL will be responsible for hosting the Winter, Spring, and Summer Tours for Western Europe and North America in the upcoming DPC season. However, no information about hosting the Majors has been announced. This decision puzzled fans, considering the competition from ESL and DreamLeague, who are also prominent tournament hosts in these regions.

PGL’s Acquisition of WEU Regional League

While it made sense for PGL to secure the DPC rights for the NA region due to their experience and previous involvement, many did not expect them to land the Western European (WEU) regional league. This move came as a surprise, especially after Beyond the Summit, another major Dota 2 tournament organizer in the region, stepped away from the scene.

Potential Absence of Panels in the 2023 DPC Season

In addition to the production issues, PGL faced criticism for its decision to have a remote panel for TI11. This meant that most of the talent could not attend the event in person and had to cover it from a different continent. Considering PGL’s recent cost-cutting decisions, it is uncertain whether panels will be a part of the 2023 DPC season.

As of now, PGL’s DPC rights only include the online seasonal leagues. There is still a possibility that other competitors like WePlay, ESL, or DreamLeague might host the Majors in the future.
