Complexity Gaming Headed to StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor for Shot at EPICENTER Major
After finishing third in the Major qualifiers, Complexity Gaming is now set to compete in the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor, giving them one last chance to secure a spot at the EPICENTER Major.
Complexity Gaming faced tough competition in the Major qualifiers, falling short to both Forward Gaming and Evil Geniuses, who claimed the two North American slots reserved for EPICENTER.
With the team coming close to another Dota Pro Circuit Major, Complexity entered the NA qualifiers for the StarLadder Minor as early favorites. Their path to the finals was made easier by playing against a newly formed team in the first round.
The NA region only had one spot available at the Minor, so only four teams competed in the closed qualifiers. Complexity and J Storm received direct invitations, while beastcoast and Young Drug Gaming made their way through the open qualifiers.
Complexity had little trouble defeating Young Drug Gaming, a team made up of relatively unknown players from various regions. This victory advanced Complexity to face J Storm in the next round.
J Storm and Forward Gaming have been battling for the second seed in NA throughout the season, both ranking in the top 20 of the Dota Pro Circuit. However, J Storm seemed to be playing at a slower pace than usual, even after defeating beastcoast.
Despite losing the first game, Complexity took advantage of J Storm’s slower tempo and went on to win two consecutive games. In the lower bracket, J Storm triumphed over beastcoast, setting up a rematch against Complexity in the grand finals.
Complexity dominated the grand finals, winning the first game decisively and withstanding a late push in the second game.
With this 2-0 victory, Complexity secures their spot in the StarLadder Minor and looks to qualify for their second consecutive Major. The top two teams from the Minor will advance to the EPICENTER Major.
The final lineup of the eight teams competing in the Minor will be determined on May 24, after the conclusion of the closed qualifiers in Europe.
