BetBoom’s crushing defeat to Azure Ray at TI 2023: Just one kill does the job

BetBoom Team Falls Short at The International 2023

BetBoom Team, known for its “super team” roster, showcased a remarkable turnaround in the second half of the year. However, their journey came to an end at The International 2023. In game two against Azure Ray, Nightfall’s Morphling made a crucial mistake, costing BetBoom the match and their chance at the tournament.

After an intense series against Virtus.pro on the first day of TI12’s finals weekend, BetBoom entered their match against AR with great confidence. Things were going well for them until AR secured the second Roshan, turning BetBoom’s offensive push against them.

Despite their best efforts, BetBoom couldn’t secure victory in the closing minutes. Somnus’ Necrophos proved to be unstoppable, dominating every fight and leading AR to victory.

Facing elimination, BetBoom strategically drafted gpk as the first Dragon Knight of the tournament and Pure as the Chaos Knight. With this combination, BetBoom managed to defeat Somnus’ Puck multiple times before the 20-minute mark and secured a decisive 35-5 victory to even up the series.

Game three seemed like another intense battle, but Nightfall’s mistakes with Morphling resulted in an early disadvantage for BetBoom. This allowed AR’s Lou to farm uncontested and secure an easy lead.

Although this alone wasn’t enough for AR to end the game, another mistake at the 38-minute mark led to Nightfall’s demise once again. With no threat from Morphling, AR seized the opportunity, grouped up, approached the high ground, and secured victory in the series.

To add insult to injury, AR taunted BetBoom in-game instead of offering the usual “gg’s” at the end of game three. This goes back to TORONTOTOKYO’s previous all-chat messages that accused AR of getting Pure disqualified before they eliminated them from the Bali Major.

For BetBoom, this is a disappointing end to the year. Despite being considered the favorites to dominate Eastern Europe, they struggled in major events until the Riyadh Masters in July.

Nightfall expressed his hopes for better performance in the next year. He also acknowledged his own mistakes during game three and placed the blame on himself.
