Beastcoast eliminates EG from TI11 despite Arteezy’s bald buff

Evil Geniuses Eliminated from The International 2022 by beastcoast

Evil Geniuses surprised everyone with a strong performance in the group stage of The International 2022. Sadly, their luck ran out during the main event as they were eliminated by beastcoast in two games. Despite their best efforts, EG couldn’t overcome beastcoast’s relentless domination.

One of the defining moments of EG’s downfall was their loss to Thunder Awaken on the first day. Arteezy, in a show of solidarity, shaved his head in a gesture of support, but it couldn’t change the outcome of the games against beastcoast. Regardless of their strategies, EG couldn’t withstand beastcoast’s powerful play.

For beastcoast, this is familiar territory. They have often found themselves in the lower bracket, fighting their way against top teams. They have earned the reputation of being lower bracket demons, and they lived up to this reputation once again at TI11, competing as a unit for the third consecutive time, which is a record for any team in this year’s competition.

In game one, EG struggled in the mid-game, and Whisper’s Mars dominated his lane. With support from Chris Luck’s Tiny and K1’s Slark, beastcoast controlled the game from start to finish. Despite a better performance from EG in game two, a messy teamfight around Roshan gave beastcoast the advantage they needed to secure the win.

It’s almost poetic that beastcoast, who prevented other teams from surpassing EG in points during the Arlington Major, were the ones to eliminate EG from TI11. Perhaps the assistant coach Raykill shaving his head to counter Arteezy’s bald buff had an impact, or maybe it was the Kyle curse from before the playoffs began.

Unfortunately, EG’s journey at TI11 ended with a 0-6 losing streak, placing them in ninth position, just like TI10. In an exit interview, Cr1t- reflected on the group stage, considering it a turning point that gave them false hope after a disappointing DPC season.

“Coming into this tournament we weren’t expecting much, and I don’t know what happened in the group stage but somehow we won a lot of games. I think that makes it more devastating in a way. It’s been a tough year,” said Cr1t-.
