Article: Regional Tournaments to Replace DPC Winter Tour Major for Dota 2, TI11 to Showcase Bigger Roster

Dota 2 Competitive Scene Prepares for Regional Tournaments and Expansion of The International 11

The competitive scene of Dota 2 has faced some challenges lately, including the cancellation of the 2022 Dota Pro Circuit Winter Tour Major. However, Valve is taking steps to replace the event and potentially expand The International 11.

Valve plans to host online regional tournaments throughout February, as revealed by Dota talent Shannon “SUNSfan” Scotten on his podcast “We Say Things.” These tournaments will feature the top four teams from each of the six DPC regions.

The regional finals will occur over two weekends in February, with three regions participating each weekend. Each region will have a prize pool of $100,000, resulting in a total of $600,000. The top two teams from each region will earn a specific number of DPC points, which will be the same for all regions.

Additionally, Valve is reverting its decision to redistribute DPC points in the second and third DPC Majors. The point distribution will return to its original total before the cancellation of the Winter Tour Major. The second Major will offer 2,700 DPC points, while the third Major will provide 3,500 DPC points.

Due to the inability to organize a LAN event as a replacement for the Major, Valve has opted to appease players and fans by running regional finals.

In addition, SUNSfan also mentioned that Valve is expanding the roster for The International’s next iteration from 18 to 20 teams. The second and third-place teams from each regional TI qualifier will compete in another LAN tournament before TI11. From the 12 teams participating, the top two teams from each of the six regions will qualify for TI and enter the group stage as the lowest-seeded teams.

This means that TI11 will consist of two groups with 10 teams each, and two teams will be eliminated from each group before the main stage.

Although Valve has not made an official announcement yet, SUNSfan’s sources suggest that most of the details are finalized, and an announcement is expected soon. With the conclusion of the regional leagues’ Winter Tour in the coming days, an update could be just around the corner.
