Another Dota 2 Support Experiences Increasing Success in Patch 7.34b

Vengeful Spirit Challenges Witch Doctor’s Throne in Dota 2

Witch Doctor’s reign as the top support hero in Dota 2 Patch 7.34 is being challenged by Vengeful Spirit. Although Witch Doctor received a nerf in Patch 7.34b, Vengeful Spirit’s recent buff has catapulted her into the spotlight.

Vengeful Spirit’s Magic Missile stun duration has been increased by 0.3 seconds. While it may not seem significant, this change allows teams to land more right-click attacks, resulting in a noticeable impact. According to Dotabuff, her win rate has skyrocketed to 52.38 percent in this patch. Additionally, high-level matches recorded by D2PT reveal an even higher win rate of 54.2 percent.

This recent success builds upon previous buffs for Vengeful Spirit. Her base attack speed was increased by 10, while Wave of Terror now reduces enemy damage by 15, 20, 25, and 30 percent based on the level. Furthermore, her level 10 talent now adds 200 damage to Nether Swap instead of 150, and her level 15 talent strengthens Wave of Terror by reducing the armor of affected enemies by four.

Although Vengeful Spirit has not surpassed Witch Doctor in terms of overall win rate, she has become a formidable opponent for carries. However, in high-level matches, she has overtaken Witch Doctor, indicating a potential rise in her popularity as a meta pick.

To optimize Vengeful Spirit’s abilities, players should prioritize maxing Magic Missile and Wave of Terror while still leveling up her ultimate, Nether Swap. The key to success lies in landing Magic Missile, continuously using Wave of Terror, and strategically utilizing Nether Swap to either secure a kill or save an ally from danger.

In terms of item builds, high-level players typically start with a Magic Wand, followed by Tranquil Boots and then progress to Medallion of Courage into Solar Crest. Aghanim’s Shard and Aghanim’s Scepter are also crucial items. Disassembling Arcane Boots to craft Aether Lens, Glimmer Cape, and Force Staff are viable alternatives.

Aghanim’s Shard plays a pivotal role in Vengeful Spirit’s build. It allows Magic Missile to bounce onto a second enemy hero, stunning them and doubling its effectiveness. This item can be obtained for free by defeating the Tormentor.
