Invictus Gaming Withdraws from ESL One Hamburg Due to Visa Issues
Just two days after Geek Fam had to withdraw from ESL One Hamburg due to visa issues, Invictus Gaming (IG) has faced the same problem. A replacement team, Wind and Rain, will be filling in for the Chinese squad at the Dota 2 tournament in Germany. Like Alliance replacing Geek Fam, the decision was made due to travel concerns.
Visa Issues Affecting Teams’ Participation
Traveling to a different country for a competition requires teams to request a visa for legal entry. However, visa denials and other travel policy conflicts can lead to last-minute changes and teams being unable to participate. IG expressed their disappointment, stating that though they were affected by visa issues, they want the event to continue successfully. They wished good luck to everyone attending #ESLOne Hamburg 2019.
Challenges for Chinese and Southeast Asian Teams
ESL had to quickly find European replacements for the withdrawn teams to ensure the tournament continues smoothly. Teams from China or Southeast Asia may face more difficulties in obtaining visas within a short timeframe. IG has experienced similar travel problems in the past, particularly during the Boston Major in 2016.
Impact on Future Tournaments
The visa issues faced by IG could potentially affect their participation in the upcoming Dota Summit 11 as well. It is an unfortunate setback for the team.
ESL One Hamburg is scheduled to begin on October 25, with Quincy Crew filling the final spot in the 12-team roster.
