Why CS:GO Needs Booths

Improving Competitive Conditions in Esports Tournaments

During the recent ESL-ESEA Pro League LAN event, there were discussions about the need for better setups and soundproofed booths for professional players. Gfinity already uses soundproofed booths, but ESL argues that they are expensive, bulky, and difficult to set up. However, the sound issues at ESL One Cologne demonstrate that the current method of blocking out noise is unreliable. So, what should be done?

Providing Optimal Conditions for Pro Gamers

As a gamer myself, I have often thought about what it would be like to play on a competitive stage. I have noticed that tournament organizers in games like StarCraft have invested in soundproofed booths, which shows their dedication to player comfort. In contrast, some organizers, like Riot in League of Legends, require players to use specific headsets, which can be cumbersome and affect performance. Allowing players to use their preferred hearing equipment, such as earbuds, would provide equal sound quality and enhance comfort. It’s important for tournament organizers to prioritize the well-being and competitive integrity of the players.

Noise cancelling headsets currently used at Counter Strike tournaments are not effective enough. As someone who uses noise cancelling headsets while hunting, I can confidently say that they don’t block out sufficient noise. Even when listening to loud music, I could still hear leaves being crushed. The current system of eliminating sound at tournaments is inadequate, and it’s necessary to explore better options.

The Need for Soundproofed Booths

During the Kinguin-TSM Dust 2 game, HenryG mentioned that he couldn’t provide certain details due to the lack of noise cancellation. This highlights the need for an extra level of noise cancellation, especially in large venues like the LANXESS Arena. Soundproofed booths have proven to be highly effective in blocking out noise, and ESL’s claim of inability to afford them seems questionable considering their significant financial resources. It’s crucial for tournament organizers to invest in the best equipment to maintain competitive integrity.

Investing in the Future of Esports

ESL should consider implementing soundproofed booths to ensure the best tournament experience. While there may be occasional issues with booth quality, it’s possible to address these concerns with proper materials and installation. In addition, allowing players to use earbuds, along with a headset providing white noise, could be another viable option. It’s essential to prioritize the welfare of players and create the best possible tournament environment. The esports industry has seen slower growth due to the lack of investment in crucial factors, which can have a negative impact on the sport as a whole.
