Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s Virtus Pro Eliminated from StarSeries Season 4
Another top team in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been eliminated from StarSeries Season 4 without advancing past the group stage.
Virtus Pro, one of the biggest names in CS:GO, was sent home from the LAN event in Kiev after losing 2-0 to Valve Major champions Cloud9. This defeat came despite Virtus Pro making their first-ever roster change. However, Cloud9 still has one more chance to secure a spot in the playoffs.
Virtus Pro is the third team to be eliminated so far, joining MVP PK and Fnatic at the bottom of the standings. Fnatic’s elimination was particularly dramatic, as it was a historic first for the Swedish team. On the other hand, Virtus Pro’s exit is part of an ongoing trend, as the Polish team has struggled to perform well in recent tournaments.
Aside from a win against South Korean team MVP PK, Virtus Pro failed to defeat any of the other teams they faced, including mousesports, Team Liquid (recent CS Summit 2 champions), and Cloud9 (ELEAGUE Major: Boston champions). Their final series against Cloud9 was particularly brutal, winning only a total of nine rounds across both maps.
What this means for the future of Virtus Pro remains uncertain. They recently made their first roster change since signing with Virtus Pro in 2014, replacing Wiktor “TaZ” Woijtas with Michał “MICHU” Müller.
There is still one more day of group stage games left, where teams like Cloud9 and Renegades will have their final opportunity to secure a spot in the playoffs.
