Surprising Results and Dominant Performances Mark Opening Day of the ELEAGUE Major’s New Legends Stage

The New Legends Stage of the ELEAGUE Major: Boston kicks off with one-sided games

Today marked the start of the New Legends stage of the ELEAGUE Major: Boston, and it was a day filled with one-sided matches.

Gambit Esports was one of only two teams to secure a win in the first round of the Swiss format. They chose Nuke as their map against Natus Vincere in a CIS-region showdown, and it paid off as they emerged victorious with a score of 16-5.

The day started with upsets from CIS underdogs Vega Squadron and Quantum Bellator Fire, who defeated North and Virtus Pro on Overpass (16-10) and Cache (16-3) respectively. Returning Legend teams BIG and Fnatic also suffered defeats in their matches today. Team Liquid dominated BIG on Inferno with a 16-6 score, while FaZe Clan outplayed Fnatic with a 16-8 score, with Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer leading the charge with 25 kills.

In the second half of the day, Mousesports showed their strength on Cache with a convincing 16-2 win against a struggling Astralis. G2 Esports, the French team, also had an impressive performance on Cache with a 16-8 victory over North American favorite Cloud9. French support player Nathan “NBK” Schmitt stood out with 27 kills and an average damage per round of 106.

The closest match of the day was between SK Gaming and Space Soldiers, with SK Gaming narrowly winning 16-13 on Mirage.

The second day of the New Legends stage, featuring a $1 million prize pool, begins tomorrow at 10am ET.
