Solving the Major Qualifier Riddle – The Thorin Approach

ELEAGUE Major Qualifier: Factors that Determine Team’s Chances

The ELEAGUE Major Qualifier is the most competitive qualifier in major history. Featuring former champions, top 10 teams, and underdogs with upset potential, it’s important to consider three primary factors that determine a team’s likelihood of qualifying for the ELEAGUE Major.

1. Width of Map Pool

A team’s map pool width, or how good they are on many maps, is crucial in this qualifier. Teams with small map pools are heavily punished since five maps are removed before one is selected. Teams like G2 and C9 are at risk, as opponents like Dignitas and NiP thrive when many maps are removed.

2. Specific Opponents and Best Maps

Teams with small map pools can still play their best maps if their opponents are confident on those maps and allow them to remain in the selection pool. To qualify for the Major, it’s important to face teams that give you a chance to win a couple of matches

3. Skill Level vs. Opponents on Non-Favorite Maps

Teams like FaZe and G2 can still push through and win on maps that aren’t their strongest if they have a higher skill level. However, teams like RNG and GODSENT lack the raw skill to overcome opponents’ targeted map bans.

Locks

Dignitas (Dig)

Dignitas has a wide map pool, playing everything except cache and train. While they can be upset on a few maps, their consistency ensures they will likely qualify.

Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP)

NiP is mentally unshakeable and has a solid map pool. They are a strong lock to make it through the qualifier.

Good Bets

FaZe

FaZe has a solid map pool and can ban out maps they don’t play. They are expected to progress through the qualifier.

Immortals (IMT)

IMT has the skill and aggressive style to secure three wins and advance to the Major. They may have weaknesses on certain maps, but they are unlikely to face opponents who can exploit them.

OpTic

OpTic has a wide map pool and can clean up against lower-ranked teams. While they may face challenges against top European teams, they are expected to qualify.

Risky

G2

G2 relies heavily on the skill of shox and ScreaM and has a limited map pool. They are susceptible to teams who ban them down to their weaker maps.

EnVyUs (nV)

nV has a wide map pool but lacks depth. Focus will be crucial for them to secure wins in this qualifier.

Cloud9 (C9)

C9 has a wide map pool but lacks consistency. Their skill may not be sufficient against strong opponents.

mousesports (mouz)

mouz has potential but their recent form and limited map pool may hinder their chances. They need the right opponents and a strong performance on specific maps to progress.

Spoilers

Renegades (RNG)

RNG has potential but has struggled in offline play. They need to avoid certain maps and force opponents onto others to have a chance at winning.

GODSENT (GOD)

GODSENT can upset big teams but their map pool is a major challenge. They need to avoid unfavorable maps and rely on the element of surprise.

HellRaisers

HellRaisers has limited maps but can still pose a threat. Teams need to play them on certain maps to be at risk.

TyLoo

TyLoo has upset potential but their recent performance raises doubts. They have a limited map pool and heavily rely on surprise tactics.

No Chance

Team Spirit, Vega Squadron, Counter Logic Gaming

These teams lack the qualities required to qualify for the Major.
