SK emerges victorious over Fnatic at DreamHack Summer

SK Gaming Wins DreamHack Summer and Prepares for Krakow Major

SK Gaming emerged victorious at DreamHack Summer in Jönköping, Sweden, defeating Fnatic in the grand final. This win marks the beginning of a month full of Counter-Strike leading up to the Krakow Major.

Both Fnatic and SK earned their spots in the grand finals by finishing second in their groups with 2-1 records. To reach the finals, SK played solid Counter-Strike against CLG, winning on Train and Cobblestone. Fnatic easily overcame Immortals in three maps in the other semifinal.

Inferno Map: SK’s Versatility Gives Them the Edge

SK showed their versatility on the A site, giving them an early advantage over Fnatic. However, Fnatic adjusted to SK’s defenses and managed to pick off SK players for later advantages. SK maintained a slight lead of 8-7 at halftime.

Standard Terrorist fragging from SK helped them increase their lead. Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo’s one-versus-three AWP clutch further tilted Fnatic, eventually leading to SK’s victory with a score of 16-8.

Overpass Map: Fnatic Dominates the First Half

Fnatic took a dominant 12-1 lead in the first half, with SK’s pushes being successfully stopped or taken down during retake. Fnatic ended the half at 13-2.

A pistol round win in the second half solidified SK’s fate on Overpass. Fnatic limited them to only two rounds for the second half in a row, resulting in a map three on Mirage. Fnatic played extremely comfortably on both sides, securing a 16-4 victory.

Mirage Map: SK’s Victory Sealed

SK prevented Fnatic from taking control of the middle map, regardless of their mixed economy. Fnatic made a brief comeback with some B executes, trailing SK 7-8 at halftime.

SK won the second pistol round and dominated with a healthy Terrorist economy. Fnatic’s struggling defenses couldn’t withstand SK’s intelligent executes. SK only dropped one round on their Terrorist side before ultimately winning Mirage 16-8.

SK Gaming Takes Home the Title

With their win over Fnatic, SK Gaming secured their third championship title of 2017 and a cash prize of $50,000. This victory showcases their potential in upcoming competitions, such as the ECS Season 3 Finals next week and the PGL Krakow Major next month.
