Rogue Triumphs: Forecasting DreamHack Leipzig 2017 Event

The DreamHack ASTRO Open: Predictions for Leipzig

The first edition of DreamHack ASTRO Open approaches this weekend, as eight top teams compete in Leipzig for their stake of $100,000. Here are our predictions for the event and who we think will come out as the champions.

First Place: Rogue

When considering the top contenders, it’s a close call between Rogue and FlipSid3 Tactics (F3). However, Rogue’s recent success at the ESEA Global Challenge gives them an edge. Their strong performance against LDLC, a respected French lineup, and their continued form make them a formidable force. Additionally, the fact that we’ve seen more of Rogue since the Christmas break compared to other attending teams makes it hard to determine the form of teams like F3 and Heroic.

Second Place: FlipSid3 Tactics

F3 is the most experienced lineup at the event, and they will be attending the ELEAGUE Major. Although we haven’t seen much of them recently, their strong showing against FaZe at the DreamHack Masters Las Vegas Qualifiers suggests they have what it takes to outclass less experienced teams. However, their lack of recent exposure makes it uncertain if they will perform as well.

Third Place: Heroic

Heroic, like all the teams, has been quiet during the Christmas period. Although they showed promise in the Vegas Qualifiers against FlipSid3, their form has declined since their Power-LAN 2016 victory. While they are a talented group, their depleted roster and recent performance make it unlikely for them to reach the final.

Fourth Place: LDLC

LDLC, led by Kevin “Ex6TenZ” Droolans, reached the final of the Global Challenge before losing to Rogue. Their star player, Antoine “to1nou” Pirard, displayed exceptional skill and the team has the potential to go far. However, they might struggle against tougher competition like Rogue and F3.

Two teams, qwerty and Fnatic Academy, are predicted to be out in the group stages due to the strong competition they face. While qwerty is untested and lacks individual skill, Fnatic Academy has potential but is unlikely to advance from their group.

Vega Squadron, despite causing NiP’s losses, is unlikely to make it out of the groups. Their win against NiP showed their capabilities, but they might struggle against stronger teams like BIG, F3, and Rogue.

BIG, unfortunately, is not predicted to make it out of the groups, despite their talented roster. The layout of the groups favors FlipSid3 and Rogue, leaving little room for BIG to advance. However, their strong debut against mousesports gives hope for future success.
