Renegades captain emphasizes the importance of defeating top competitors for ultimate success

The Australian Renegades Fails to Impress at ESL One Cologne

In the Counter-Strike scene, dominated by Europeans, the Australian team Renegades had hopes of making a name for themselves. However, they failed to live up to their expectations at ESL One Cologne, crashing out in the group stages of the tournament.

Tough Opponents and No Excuses

Captain Chad “Spunj” Burchill acknowledged that the opponents, including Team SoloMid, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and Titan, were difficult. He admitted that they didn’t perform as well as they should have. Despite the tough competition, Burchill made no excuses for their failure and stated that if they want to be the best, they have to beat the best.

New Sponsor and a Move to the U.S.

In June, Renegades joined forces with a new sponsor and made plans to move to the U.S. The team hopes to play in the ESL ESEA Pro League and improve their team’s synergy through a professional-level bootcamp abroad.

Focusing on the Game

With the backing from Renegades, Burchill and his players can now focus more on the game rather than other obligations. However, due to their extensive travel for various events, they haven’t had much time to practice.

Future Plans

Burchill mentioned the possibility of attending DreamHack London and other events in Europe. The team will take some time to relax before making plans for the future. Despite their disappointment at ESL One, they will continue to strive for success in upcoming tournaments.

Renegades may have been eliminated from ESL One, but they will be looking for a bigger share of the prize pool at the next major. The tournament in Cologne is still ongoing, with quarter-final matchups taking place and the event concluding on Sunday.
