Professional Players in Counter-Strike Establish Long-Awaited Association

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Gets Players’ Association

A players’ association has been announced for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO).

The Counter-Strike Professional Players’ Association (CSPPA) was announced on HLTV today. The association, spearheaded by Scott “SirScoots” Smith, will be collaborating with the Danish Elite Athletes Association (DEAA), led by Andreas “Xyp9x” Hojsleth from Astralis.

DEAA CEO Mads Øland and legal advisor Michael Døi will be running the daily operations of the CSPPA with the assistance of seven founding board members who are professional players from around the world. As per HLTV, approximately 90 players have already joined the CSPPA, and they will either elect a new board or confirm the existing one.

Here are the founding board members:

  • Andreas “Xyp9x” Hojsleth from Astralis (Denmark)
  • Epitacio “TACO” de Melo from Team Liquid (Brazil)
  • Tarik Celik from Cloud9 (North America)
  • Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski from Team Liquid (North America)
  • Jordan “n0thing” Gilbert, formerly of Cloud9 (North America)
  • Chris “chrisJ” de Jong from Mousesports (Netherlands)
  • Nathan “NBK” Schmitt, formerly of G2 Esports (France)

Døi stated in a statement to HLTV, “We will work to secure the best possible working conditions for CS:GO players, while considering the unique nature of the industry. Our aim is to represent the players effectively and contribute to the growth of the scene in a positive direction. We see many opportunities to achieve that.”

Døi mentioned that players can join the association as long as they are playing at an “elite level” in CS:GO. Membership is expected to increase as more players become aware of the organization and its player-focused advocacy.
