FlipSid3 Tactics’ Journey to the ELEAGUE Major
FlipSid3 Tactics (F3) is preparing for the upcoming ELEAGUE Major, but how did they get here? Their top-8 finish in the previous Major in Cologne secured them a spot in this tournament, bypassing the Major Main Qualifier. Now, the question is whether their performance in Cologne was a fluke or if they can repeat their success in Atlanta.
The Underdogs in Cologne
In the lead-up to the Cologne Major in July 2016, most teams were expected to advance to the playoffs. However, FlipSid3 Tactics was not considered to be among the top teams. Placed in a group with Natus Vincere and NiP, they were easily overshadowed. While most attention was on the “Group of Death,” not much was expected from FlipSid3.
Overcoming the Odds
The group stage started as expected, with FlipSid3 losing to Na`Vi. Their next match against OpTic Gaming was their best chance for a win, and they narrowly emerged victorious. This set up a decider match against NiP, where the odds were heavily stacked against them. However, their previous overtime match against NiP in Columbus showed that they had the potential to challenge top teams. In Cologne, FlipSid3 defeated NiP, securing their spot as Legends in the ELEAGUE Major.
What to Expect from FlipSid3 in the ELEAGUE Major
FlipSid3 Tactics, led by in-game leader Andrey “B1ad3” Gorodenskiy, will bring their innovative strategies to the ELEAGUE Major. While their recent offline performance at DreamHack Winter wasn’t impressive, the team did manage to defeat Team Dignitas. Realistically, another playoff appearance may be unlikely for FlipSid3, as they are considered one of the weaker teams in this Major.
A Tough First Match against FaZe Clan
In their first match of the tournament, FlipSid3 will face an improved FaZe Clan lineup. With skilled players like Finn “karrigan” Andersen, FaZe Clan possesses superior firepower. FlipSid3’s hope of winning lies in their ability to read their opponent’s strategies and outsmart them. The outcome of this matchup will largely depend on B1ad3’s tactics.
Predictions
FlipSid3’s chances of progressing beyond the group stage are slim. While their performance in the Las Vegas Qualifier was promising, the Major will be a different challenge. The quality of their opponents has increased since the last Major, making it difficult for FlipSid3 to advance further. Reaching the playoffs would require beating three strong teams, which seems unlikely for them. Unfortunately, I don’t see them making it past the group stages.
