The First Counter Strike Major Preview: Group B
The first Counter Strike major is quickly approaching, and we need to decide which eight teams will join the eight “Legends” from Dreamhack Cluj-Napoca in MLG Columbus. In this preview, I will give a rundown of the teams in Group B and provide predictions on the results.
Mousesports
Mousesports enters this qualifier with strong momentum, showcasing dominance in their recent LAN, Acer Predator Masters 2. They swept aside Team LDLC White and E Frag in bo3 wins, then continued their dominance by winning a bo7 against Flipsid3 without dropping a map. Despite falling short against G2 and NiP in online play, Mousesports is one of the strongest teams at this qualifier with their LAN and Major experience. Look out for Niko, who is considered one of the best up-and-coming talents in Counter Strike.
Team Liquid
Liquid is the most interesting team in this group. With the addition of S1mple, one of the most talented players in the world, Liquid has quickly become the best team in the United States. Although their new addition, Koosta, has been replaced for this tournament, I believe Liquid will still perform well. Keep an eye on Elige, as his fragging power offline will be crucial for the team’s success. With Hiko’s clutch plays and S1mple’s skill, Liquid can easily qualify for MLG Columbus.
Hellraisers
Hellraisers has had past successes, but they are past their prime. Although they secured a spot in this qualifier by winning the PGL Regional Minor for Europe, their recent performance at the Acer Predator Masters 2 was underwhelming. With losses against Flipsid3 and Alternate Attax, it is clear that this team is not what it used to be. I don’t see them progressing from this group.
Team YP
Team YP is one of the lesser-known teams in the tournament, making it difficult to judge their performance. However, their limited play in 2016 and a wildcard factor may work in their favor. Watch out for DavCost, the only team member with significant LAN experience. Team YP has the potential to upset and create some excitement in this group.
