ESL One Katowice 2015: A Preview of the Upcoming Major

ESL One Katowice 2015 is just around the corner, and ESN has all the details you need to know about this upcoming major.

After the ESL One Qualifier, the 16 teams are prepared to battle it out next week in Katowice, Poland.

Pool play will begin on March 12, with matches being played in a best-of-one format. The pool play will follow a double elimination format, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Quarter-Finals. The Quarter-Final and Semi-Final matches will be single elimination and played as a best of three from March 13-14. The culmination of the tournament will take place on Championship Sunday, where the top two teams will compete for the title.

The groups in this tournament are the most interesting and crucial part of the competition. Each group consists of two legendary teams, who received invitations, and two ‘Challenger’ teams, who fought their way through the Qualifier in Katowice. The groups are as follows:

Group A:

Flipsid3 Tactics, Fnatic, Vox Eminor, and Natus Vincere.

Group B:

Team EnVyUs, PENTA Sports, LGB Esports, and Titan.

Group C:

Ninjas In Pajamas, HellRaisers, Counter Logic Gaming, and Keyd Stars.

Group D:

Cloud9 G2A, 3DMAX, TSM Kinguin, and Virtus Pro.

Prize Breakdown:

The 16 teams in this tournament are competing for a substantial prize pool of $250,000. The prize money will be divided among all the qualified teams. Therefore, every team will walk away with a prize, but the amount will depend on their performance.

The first and second-place teams will receive $100,000 and $50,000 respectively. The teams that finish in third and fourth place will each get $22,000. The teams placed fifth through eighth will receive $10,000, while the teams placed ninth through sixteenth will get $2,000. Regardless of the outcome, the teams that make it to the semi-final round will receive a decent payout.
