Play Counter-Strike 1.6 on Your Mobile Device

Play Counter-Strike 1.6 on Your Android Phone

You can now play a version of the popular esports game Counter-Strike 1.6 on your Android phone, although it may not be legal or advisable. This bootleg port of Counter-Strike 1.6, which gave rise to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, can even be played with a USB keyboard and mouse.

A modder from Kazakhstan named Alibek Omarov, along with his team SDLash3D, has developed a clever solution to transfer the legally purchased files of the original Counter-Strike onto an Android device. They have created an engine called Xash3D, which runs the original Half-Life engine Source on Android.

In the process of porting the game to a mobile device, they have also developed a touchscreen control scheme, resulting in translucent virtual buttons and joysticks on the screen. However, despite their efforts, the game struggles to maintain a decent framerate on modern smartphones, and the on-screen controls make certain maneuvers difficult.

If you’re interested in trying out this version of Counter-Strike on your Android phone, you can find the instructions and extra files on Omarov’s GitHub page.
