Limpone: “We’re not the current pros, but we will be”

GODSENT Academy: The Future of Esports

GODSENT recently made waves in the esports community with their decision to open an academy. This move aims to groom young talent and nurture future stars. With the rapidly evolving landscape of competitive gaming, academies may be the key to developing the next generation of professionals in a more structured and effective way.

In an exclusive interview, we had the opportunity to speak with Linus “Limpone” Wecksell, a member of the GODSENT Academy and the younger brother of renowned player Jesper “JW” Wecksell. We discussed Limpone’s background, growing up with a famous sibling, his experience in the academy, and his thoughts on the esports scene.

A New Perspective

We started with a simple question: How’s it going?

“I’m doing well, man,” Limpone replied. “The team is going through some changes, so I’m busy and always trying to improve. How about you?”

The Story Behind the Name

Curious about Limpone’s unique alias, we asked him where it came from. He explained that his brother’s nickname originated from a character in a movie, while his own name was a variation of his real-life nickname “Limpan.” To make it more accessible to an English-speaking audience, he came up with “Limpone.” Even to this day, he’s not sure of the correct pronunciation.

A Journey in Counter-Strike

We delved into Limpone’s gaming history and noticed that he had fewer hours on Counter-Strike 1.6 compared to Global Offensive. He explained that he was young when 1.6 was popular and found it more difficult to get into the game. At the time, he was playing World of Warcraft with his friends, who weren’t interested in 1.6. However, when Source was released, he found people in his town who played, and he started playing casually on public servers.

A Unique Playstyle

Limpone described his playstyle as aggressive and intelligent. While he enjoys using flashbangs and grenades to surprise opponents, he avoids straight-up aim duels. He prefers to engage in battles where he has an advantage. However, he acknowledged that this approach doesn’t always guarantee success.

Finding His Path

While Limpone’s brother had a successful career early on, he didn’t receive much guidance due to their different schedules. Limpone credits his other brother, Jimmy, for helping him develop as a player. Starting in matchmaking, Limpone gradually outshone his brother and began making a name for himself.

Joining GODSENT Academy

Interestingly, Limpone joined the GODSENT organization before his brother. He initially had reservations about the academy project but decided to apply for fun. When GODSENT expressed interest in him and his current teammates, they made the difficult choice to leave their previous team for a chance at something potentially greater. Through a grueling tryout process, they secured spots in the academy’s top-five team.

The Benefits of an Academy

Limpone highlighted the benefits of being part of an academy team. The stability and support offered by a large organization and experienced players are invaluable. Unlike semi-professional teams that often disband after a setback, academy teams have mentors to turn to for advice and teammates who won’t abandon ship after one failure. Limpone emphasized that academy teams represent the future of the scene.

Interaction with the Pros

Limpone expressed gratitude for the support and assistance provided by the senior lineup at GODSENT. While they have their own team and challenges, they always make time to help the academy players. He mentioned Alexander “RDL” Redl, the current GODSENT coach, as someone who has been especially supportive and involved with their development.

A Bright Future

Given his talent and dedication, Limpone believes that he and his teammates can achieve professional status within a year. He emphasized that their goal is not just to become pros but to compete at a high level. They are focused on steady progress and development as a team.

Outside of Gaming

Currently taking a break from school, Limpone is exploring his options for the future. He is working and playing CS:GO, and while he prefers working over studying, he hasn’t ruled out going back to school once his break is over.

Influence and Inspiration

When asked about those who inspire him, Limpone mentioned Richard Lewis, a prominent figure in the esports community, for his insightful perspective and approach to life. While he takes inspiration from other players in the scene, his brother remains his biggest source of admiration.

Final Words

In closing, Limpone expressed his gratitude to those who support him and his team. He believes this is just the beginning of their journey and looks forward to what lies ahead.
