KennyS Says: “I’ll Always Have Room for Improvement”

Gfinity Invitational: EnVyUs Takes Home the Win

Last Sunday, I had the chance to attend the Gfinity Invitational at EGX2016, along with Cam Brierley. Although we couldn’t stay for the whole event, the time we spent there was fantastic. Gfinity, mousesports, and Team EnVyUs treated us to three thrilling maps, with EnVyUs ultimately coming out as the winners.

After EnVyUs’s 3-0 victory over mouse, we had the opportunity to interview their AWPer, Kenny “KennyS” Schrub:

Congratulations on your win Kenny! The match against mousesports was a tough one. Were you surprised by the difficulty?

KennyS: No, not at all. We’ve been shaky since the beginning of the tournament, especially in our first game against Epsilon. Mousesports have been performing well recently. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting a 3-0 victory. Our T side was weak during the game, and they even made a comeback on Cache. But a win is a win; we just need to work on our T side.

Your star players really showed up today. Apex was getting frags, you were hitting some sick AWP shots, and Happy, who’s not usually at the top of your team, performed exceptionally well. Has there been a role switch or was it just luck?

KennyS: Happy didn’t change much; he’s back to in-game leading. We switched Devil and NBK on T side. Basically, we’ve gone back to the basics since coming back from vacation. We’re improving through scrims.

Let’s talk about the match against Epsilon on Friday. They’re an up-and-coming team in the Swedish region. Did you feel prepared going into that match? Was it as easy as you wanted it to be?

KennyS: We were confident, but it was hard to play against Epsilon because we had never played them before. They showed a lot of skill in their games. We were better in terms of tactics and mid-round calls, but we lost a map against them on Cobblestone. It was our fault; we were shaky. However, we managed to win quite easily in the end.

During the series, your AWPing was on point. Have you been doing anything differently in training or is it because of Happy going back to in-game leading?

KennyS: I’ve been getting better over the past three months, but I’ll never be good enough in my opinion. Sometimes, I prefer doing something else rather than playing, but when I’m playing a lot, I gain more confidence.

Another team hoping to be in the top five is mousesports. Do you think they have the potential with their new lineup and coach?

KennyS: Yes, they’ve been performing well lately and showing good stuff. At the moment, we’re better than them, but we have more experience and more chances of making it into the top five.

I want to thank Gfinity for arranging this interview and KennyS for his time. Despite winning the tournament just 30 minutes ago, he remained extremely humble about his opponents. Thank you to both parties for your cooperation.
