Interview with Mike “Hastro” Rufail

Team EnVyUs Owner and Managing Director Talks about the Future of the Team

We recently interviewed Mike “Hastro” Rufail, the owner and managing director of Team EnVyUs.

Question: What are your plans for the villa you recently invested in for your Counter-Strike: Global Offensive professionals? Is it a short-term resource or a long-term house for the team?

“The team will use the villa as a short-term resource before events.”

“The team will use the villa as a short-term resource before events for now, but players are welcome to stay for an extended period if they want.”

Teams and sponsors in various esports titles like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Call of Duty, League of Legends, and StarCraft II have been debating whether team houses are the right direction for them and what they truly need. There are potential issues and expenses to consider.

However, purchasing a team house provides numerous opportunities for both professionals and staff members.

You can read more about the debate on CS:GO gaming houses in our article titled “CS:GO Gaming House: Disaster or Necessity?” here.

Question: What are your thoughts on the current state of prize pools in CS:GO?

“I believe prize pools could be larger or have a crowdfunding option similar to Dota. However, we shouldn’t focus solely on one large event like The International, as it may overshadow other tournaments in the scene.”

Question: If a change in prize pools is needed, should the CS:GO community consider crowdfunding?

“We already have a crowdfunding system with stickers at each major, thanks to Valve’s generosity. It’s not our decision to delve into crowdfunding if the developer controls the assets in-game. There might be ways of crowdfunding outside the game, but its success is uncertain.”

Question: How does the event experience in CS:GO compare to other esports, such as Call of Duty?

“The event experiences with our CS:GO team surpass anything I’ve seen in most other esports. The global fan support is incredible. League of Legends and DOTA 2 are the only other games with this level of fandom. I hope other games reach that level too.”
