IEM Sydney sees Astralis and TyLoo dominate the group stage

The group stage wraps up at IEM Sydney

The group stage of IEM Sydney concluded today, setting the stage for the upcoming playoffs. TyLoo and Astralis emerged as the top teams in Group A and B, respectively, earning direct spots in the semifinals with their flawless 3-0 records. Meanwhile, Renegades, FaZe Clan, Fnatic, and Mousesports will battle it out in the quarterfinals for the remaining semifinals spots.

Astralis and TyLoo dominate in the group stage

Day three of the tournament saw Astralis and TyLoo dominate their opponents with impressive performances. TyLoo secured victories against SK Gaming, Cloud9, and Renegades, while Astralis took down BOOT-d[S], Mousesports, and Fnatic. Both teams are on a roll, winning all their matches without dropping a single map.

Unfortunately, no North American teams made it to the playoffs. NRG Esports put up a good fight against G2 Esports, but fell short in their upset attempt. Cloud9 also suffered a defeat against FaZe, continuing their losing streak against them since the ELEAGUE Boston Major grand finals.

Looking ahead

Tomorrow’s matches will feature Fnatic vs. FaZe and Mouz vs. Renegades in best-of-three series. TyLoo and Astralis, on the other hand, can enjoy a day off as they await the semifinals on Saturday, May 5. Fnatic vs. FaZe will be played at 12am CT tonight and Mouz vs. Renegades will follow at 4am CT.
