French esports ‘politics’ believed to influence Shox’s departure from G2

Conflict Among French CS:GO Players Revealed

Once again, the world’s top French CS:GO players are facing conflict.

G2 Esports recently removed Richard “shox” Papillon, and the reasons behind his removal are rooted in French “politics.” These politics involve players having issues with each other, preventing them from playing together on the same team. This is particularly prevalent in French teams like G2 Esports and Team Envy.

In an interview with French media site VaKarM, G2’s in-game leader Nathan “NBK” Schmitt discussed the recent changes in the team, including the removal of shox, the addition of Oscar “mixwell” Canellas, and NBK’s transition into the in-game leading role. NBK stated that a decline in motivation over time and disagreements in the play-calling responsibilities were the primary reasons for shox’s departure.

When shox saw the interview, he called out NBK on Twitter, stating that they had agreed on the team’s issues before he left. NBK responded, suggesting they discuss it privately. NBK further clarified his points from the interview in French on Twitter, expressing his desire for shox to still be at his peak form.

Shortly after shox’s removal, he appeared on G2’s podcast to discuss the changes. His ideal G2 team did not include NBK and Dan “apEX” Madesclaire. Instead, he preferred to have former Team LDLC captain Kevin “Ex6tenz” Droolans and former G2 coach Eduouard “SmithZz” Debourdeax, alongside himself, Kenny “kennyS” Schrub, and Alexandre “bodyy” Pianaro.

In a recent interview with Flickshot, apEX at DreamHack Masters Marseille revealed that their potential could have kept them at the top, but changes had to be made nonetheless. “Right now, it’s too complicated,” apEX said. “At certain times, we could have been a much better team. In France, I think we often prioritize individual comfort over the team.” apEX also expressed doubt regarding the success of shox’s next project with Ex6tenz and SmithZz in the top-level CS:GO competition.
