Fnatic chooses draken over golden for lineup change

Fnatic Reportedly Signs AWPer Draken from Ninjas in Pyjamas

Fnatic has reportedly signed Ninjas in Pyjamas AWPer William “draken” Sundin, according to a report by Flickshot. Draken will be replacing former Fnatic in-game leader Maikhil “golden” Selim, who was initially set to be removed before Richard “xizt” Landstrom joined the team.

Draken’s signing with Fnatic comes after a series of changes in the roster. Fnatic recently swapped out Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson for Xizt, leading Lekr0 to join NiP. As a result, draken was left without a team.

The decision to remove draken from NiP raised some eyebrows, as he was one of the top performers for the team. Despite this setback, draken displayed humility on social media, stating that he would use this time to reflect and grow stronger.

If the signing is confirmed, draken will join Fnatic as the primary AWPer. In an interview with HLTV, player Jesper “JW” Wecksell expressed his desire to move away from using the AWP all the time, making draken’s inclusion in the lineup a perfect fit. JW will likely transition into the secondary AWPer role, taking on a more hybrid playstyle.

This is the second time that Fnatic is seeking to replace golden. Initially, he was on the verge of being kicked due to poor in-game leading skills, but the team’s victory at WESG 2017 saved his spot. However, with Xizt now taking on the role of the in-game leader, golden’s support player position is no longer needed.

Update June 17 9:20am CT: Fnatic has officially announced that draken has replaced golden on the organization’s CS:GO team.

“I am incredibly proud and happy to be joining Fnatic,” said draken. “I not only look forward to playing with Xizt again—who has proven he can be one of the very best IGLs—but also to play beside the legends, Krimz, Flusha and JW.”
