Final line-up confirmed for ECS season four finals with SK Gaming, the defending champions, unable to participate

Esports Championship Series Season 4 Finals Recap

The fourth Esports Championship Series (ECS) concluded last night, determining the eight teams that will compete in the offline finals after two months of intense competition.

Cloud9, OpTic Gaming, Team Liquid, and Luminosity Gaming emerged as the top four teams in North America. Luminosity Gaming secured their spot by defeating Renegades in round 30 of Cache, surpassing Brazilian team SK Gaming and Team Liquid. This unfortunate outcome for SK Gaming resulted in them finishing fifth and missing out on qualifying for the finals.

This is the first time SK Gaming will not be competing in a major CS:GO league finals in 2017. Some speculate that their failure to qualify can be attributed, at least in part, to their busy event schedule over the past two months.

In the European region, Fnatic, FaZe Clan, Mousesports, and Astralis claimed the top four spots out of ten teams. Despite Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz’s medical leave, Astralis managed to secure third place with Jacob “pimp” Winneche substituting for him. Their victories over GODSENT allowed them to outperform Ninjas in Pyjamas, who finished fifth in the region, by a margin of 23 rounds.

However, the bottom two teams from each region will compete in the ECS Promotion League for a chance to regain a spot in the main league. GODSENT and Heroic were relegated in the European region, while Ghost Gaming and Immortals faced demotion in North America. Immortals withdrew from the entire season due to a complete overhaul of their roster.

The ECS Season 4 Finals are scheduled to take place from December 15th to 17th in Cancun, Mexico. Eight teams will battle it out for a prize pool of $750,000.
