FaZe and Mouz secure spots in IEM Sydney semifinals

The first day of playoff games at IEM Sydney’s Counter-Strike tournament ended with two expected results today at the Qudos Bank Arena.

Renegades, the local fan favorite, was eliminated after a tough three-map quarterfinal against Mousesports, who are known for their strong teamwork in CS:GO. Fnatic was also eliminated by FaZe Clan, despite a slight stumble by the European powerhouse on the second map.

FaZe Clan showed their dominance against the Swedes, winning multiple rounds and out-fragging them on Cache and Mirage. Although Fnatic made a late-game CT side comeback on Mirage from a 15-5 score to 15-14, FaZe secured a victory in the 30th round to complete a sweep over Fnatic.

The second quarterfinal between Mousesports and Renegades was a much tougher battle. Mousesports easily won the first map, Mirage, with a score of 16-7, and carried their momentum into Inferno. However, Renegades fought back from an 11-4 deficit after winning the second pistol round. The match eventually went into triple overtime, with Renegades finishing with a 25-22 victory. Despite Noah “Nifty” Francis’s outstanding performance of 51 kills in the 47-round map, Mousesports ultimately overwhelmed the Australian team on Train. Mousesports sealed the series with an overtime sweep, with Tomas “oskar” Stastny and Miikka “suNny” Kemppi delivering the most damage against Renegades.
