ESL One Cologne Group D Claims Its First Casualty

ESL One Cologne: Teams Eliminated in Groups Stage

Four teams have been eliminated from ESL One Cologne after the conclusion of day two. While the talent distribution in the groups made it difficult to predict, let’s take a look at the teams that didn’t make it to the playoffs.

Group A

Counter Logic Gaming (CLG) had hopes for a good run at ESL One Cologne after Joshua “JDM” Marzano’s departure. However, they lost a close match against Gambit on Dust 2, which led them to the elimination match against Dignitas on Cobblestone. Unfortunately, CLG was outclassed and dropped the map 16-1.

Group B

OpTic Gaming, an up-and-coming North American team, aimed to prove themselves against the best. They faced Ninjas in Pyjamas on Dust 2 and couldn’t overcome their rivals, losing 16-4. In their second match against FlipSid3 on Train, OpTic had the lead but couldn’t secure the victory, losing 16-13.

Group C

After dominating their group at ELEAGUE, Team EnVyUs seemed promising. However, they couldn’t put up much of a challenge against Team Liquid on Train, losing 16-7. Facing elimination against Mousesports, they started strong on the Terrorist side but ultimately lost 16-12.

Group D

Group D was referred to as “The Group of Death” due to the presence of top teams like Fnatic, G2 Esports, and SK Gaming. G2 played SK Gaming on Cobblestone, but couldn’t match their firepower and lost 16-11. In the elimination match against Fnatic, G2 put up a fight but fell short, losing 16-13.

Regardless of how the groups played out, there are questions about the seeding process for majors. How should it be done? Share your thoughts in the comments or on Twitter.
