Astralis Star Player dev1ce Diagnosed with Hiatal Hernia

Astralis’ top player Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz took to Twitter this morning to announce that he has been diagnosed with a hiatal hernia.

This type of hernia occurs when a part of the stomach protrudes into the diaphragmatic esophageal hiatus, or in simpler terms, a portion of the stomach sticks through the diaphragm into an area of the thoracic cavity where it shouldn’t be. Last week, dev1ce hinted at his stomach issues on Twitter, but since hiatal hernias are usually asymptomatic, he did not know the exact diagnosis while he was in Poland for IEM Katowice.

In terms of Astralis’ options, dev1ce will be weighing whether or not to undergo surgery. However, surgery could potentially have significant side effects and may prevent him from competing for a certain amount of time. dev1ce’s upcoming break from competition may impact Astralis’ performance in future events, such as the StarLadder iLeague Season 3 Finals.

dev1ce is not the only Counter-Strike player affected by health problems. In the past, Fnatic’s Olof “olofmeister” Kjajber and Na’Vi’s Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovacs experienced wrist-related issues that affected their teams’ performances in the first half of 2016. Additionally, NiP’s Christopher “GeT_RiGhT” Alesund disclosed having ulcerative colitis in 2013.

If any further details are revealed, this article will be updated accordingly.
