Counter-Strike: Cloud9 Embarks on a Golden Age

Cloud9 Emerges as Runner-Up at the ESL ESEA Pro League Finals

North American fans enjoyed an action-packed weekend filled with thrilling Counter-Strike matches and Independence Day celebrations. At the ESL ESEA Pro League Finals, one team stood out among the rest – Team Fnatic, who claimed the championship title. However, right behind them was the unexpected contender, Cloud9. Many did not anticipate a North American team making it to the grand finals, let alone the quarter finals.

A Shift in the North American Esports Scene

This turn of events marks a significant change in the North American esports scene. It has been nearly 9 years since an American team has won a major tournament. Were we finally going to witness a North American team beating a European team in a finals series? Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Yet, this competition taught us two things.

Firstly, North America is evolving in the esports industry. Professional and semi-professional American teams are backed by organizations and companies that are dedicated to their success. In the past, North American organizations struggled due to lack of financial and moral support, with only a couple of powerhouse organizations like iBP and compLexity (now Cloud9) standing out.

Cloud9’s Progress and Future Endeavors

However, the scene has changed. Every few months, new or existing organizations emerge, providing teams with gaming houses, top-notch equipment, and the opportunity to compete against European teams. It’s like the scene in the movie ‘Rocky,’ with opponents trading punches. And that’s where Cloud9 made their mark, defeating EnvyUs and CLG to reach the semi-finals. Although they didn’t secure the championship, their progress gives hope to North American fans.

Continued Training and Growth

It’s important for North American teams, including Cloud9, to continue training and improving their skills. European teams are no longer unbeatable giants. The Electronic Sports World Cup is just weeks away, and Cloud9 must make this event their defining moment. While they came close this time, there is still room for growth and development.

Cloud9’s current lineup is well-prepared and united. Their skills are on par with their counterparts, and their teamwork is reminiscent of the days when they were compLexity. Despite any mistakes they may make, we should acknowledge their hard work and dedication. The world is theirs for the taking.
