Cloud9 and SK secure spot in semifinals at ECS Season 3 Finals

Cloud9 and SK Gaming Dominate Day One of ECS Season 3 Finals

In a spectacular display of skill and strategy, Cloud9 and SK Gaming emerged as the victors on the first day of the ECS Season 3 Finals. They secured impressive wins over G2 Esports, FaZe, Fnatic, and Astralis, solidifying their dominance in the tournament.

With flawless 2-0 group stage records from day one, both C9 and SK have secured their spots in the semifinals of the London event. They will face off against the winners of tomorrow’s match deciders from Group A and Group B.

SK Gaming

SK Gaming, the formidable Brazilian team, started the weekend strong with a convincing victory over G2. Their exceptional play on the Counter-Terrorist side led them to a commanding 16-7 win on Cache. Epitacio “TACO” de Melo and Marcelo “coldzera” David were the standout players, contributing 25 and 24 kills, respectively.

In the winners’ match of Group A, SK faced off against FaZe. With three consecutive rounds as Terrorists, SK tested FaZe’s Counter-Terrorist economy on Train. They comfortably secured a 16-8 victory, with Fernando “Fer” Avarenga leading the charge with 26 kills and an impressive 115.0 average damage per round.

Cloud9

Cloud9 capitalized on Fnatic’s shaky performance on Train, executing successful Terrorist plays, particularly on A site. An impressive Counter-Terrorist side from the North Americans sealed their victory, with five successful retakes during the match. Cloud9 won decisively with a scoreline of 16-8 over the Swedes.

The winners’ match of Group B featured a highly-anticipated showdown between Astralis and Cloud9 on Mirage. Despite Astralis initially winning seven consecutive rounds as Terrorists, Cloud9 made a remarkable comeback in the second half with 11 successful Terrorist rounds. They forced overtime and ultimately secured a 19-15 victory, sending Astralis to the decider match. Tim “autimatic” Ta’s exceptional performance with 34 kills, a 64.7 headshot percentage, and a 114.2 ADR was instrumental in Cloud9’s triumph.

The Group Stage Finale

The group elimination matches will see OpTic Gaming face G2 Esports (Group A) and Team Liquid take on Fnatic (Group B). The winners of the Group A match will advance to compete against FaZe, while the winner of the Group B match will face off against Astralis in the decider matches.

Will the remaining North American teams be able to create history by defeating their European counterparts? Or will they crumble under the pressure?
