BetBoom Team Faces Criticism for Repeat Offense in Dota 2
BetBoom Team has once again found themselves in hot water in the Dota 2 community. During their match against Shopify Rebellion on Sept. 24, player Danil “Gpk” Skutin was caught watching the Russian broadcast of DreamLeague Season 21 during the drafting stage. This is not the first time the team has been punished for this behavior.
A Costly Mistake
Gpk can be seen in a clip switching tabs between Dota 2 and Twitch. Unfortunately for BetBoom, they suffered a loss in a previous match due to a similar incident in July.
After watching a Dota 2 stream during the Bali Major match against Tundra Esports, BetBoom was given a loss as punishment. This action received heavy criticism from the community, especially directed at player Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko. Given that it has only been a few months since that incident, Dota 2 fans were baffled to see BetBoom repeat the same mistake.
Despite their loss in the series against Shopify Rebellion, BetBoom placed third in the tournament. It remains unclear if ESL will impose any penalties on the team, but any consequences will likely be enforced in future events.
Possible penalties for BetBoom include drafting penalties, default losses in future stages of tournaments, or exclusion from the next ESL event. Although watching a broadcast stream during the drafting stage may not provide a clear advantage, rules are rules, and most Dota 2 tournaments require players to remain in the Dota 2 client once their match begins, including the drafting stage.
Tundra’s Neta “33” Shapira also faced a drafting penalty during the Bali Major for opening Spotify, proving that context is irrelevant when it comes to this rule.
