Update: Mikyx set to join G2, forming a formidable duo with Perkz

G2 Esports Acquires Fnatic Mid Laner Caps and Misfits Support Mikyx

G2 Esports has made a significant move this offseason by reportedly acquiring Fnatic mid laner Caps “Rasmus” Winther. This move is particularly interesting because G2 already has a star mid laner, Luka “Perkz” Perković.

The acquisition of Caps left one question unanswered: who would be Perkz’s support in the bot lane? The incumbent support, Kim “Wadid” Bae-in, had a strong year, but his partnership with Petter “Hjarnan” Freyschuss has become well-known since Wadid joined two years ago. According to VP Esports, G2 has decided to move on from both halves of their bot lane and sign Misfits support Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle.

Perkz’s familiarity with Mikyx is believed to be the reason behind this move, as they have played together in duo queue. Perkz’s solo queue history shows that he has been playing ADC champions while duoing with a user named “GrøntsagsGnasker,” which is Danish for “vegetable muncher,” one of Mikyx’s IDs.

Mikyx found himself without a team unexpectedly when Misfits signed Korean support Kang “GorillA” Beom-hyeon. Despite his consistency, Mikyx was never the central figure for Misfits. However, on G2, he will be playing a supportive role behind vocal leaders like Perkz and Caps.

With the addition of Caps and Mikyx, G2 will have a complete starting roster. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to challenge Caps-less Fnatic and the revamped Misfits in the upcoming LEC season.
