Xmithie describes Immortals’ sudden promotion of Academy roster to LCS

Immortals Make Last-Minute Roster Change in LCS Summer Split

Immortals, the highly popular esports team in the League of Legends, has faced a challenging season so far. After benching their veteran jungler Xmithie at the beginning of the 2020 LCS Summer Split, they decided to bring up their Academy roster for the third week of the season.

During an interview with Travis Gafford, the 29-year-old Xmithie revealed that the decision to switch rosters was made at the eleventh hour. The coaching staff and players made the call on Wednesday, June 24, just a day before their Academy games that week.

It is worth mentioning that Xmithie and his teammates on the Academy team hadn’t practiced against any LCS squads up until that point. They had only scrimmed against fellow Academy teams up to week three. The organization was initially unsure about the decision to switch rosters but eventually decided to move forward with it.

The outcome of the roster change was evident when Immortals secured their first win of the season over the weekend. Supported by veteran players like Xmithie, AD carry Apollo, and support Hakuho, the team showed promise. However, they faced a loss in their second match against an unbeaten Cloud9 roster, who are vying to become back-to-back LCS champions.

Following a difficult start to the summer split, Immortals recently made changes within the coaching staff. They parted ways with head coach Thomas “Zaboutine” Si-Hassen and general manager Keaton Cryer. In the meantime, coach Adrien “GotoOne” Picard is lending a helping hand until a new head coach is found.

Despite the challenges, Immortals’ first win has injected a sense of optimism. As the season reaches its midway point, the team might turn things around for the better.

Don’t miss the chance to watch Immortals in action when the LCS returns on Friday, July 3.
