G2 clinch thrilling win over Schalke 04 in LEC Spring Playoffs

The 2021 LEC Spring Playoffs: Schalke 04 vs G2 Esports

The 2021 LEC Spring Playoffs continued today with an upper-bracket match between Schalke 04 and G2 Esports. The game was anticipated to be one-sided, but it turned out to be a thrilling five-game series.

There were innovative draft picks, pentakills, and standout performances. Ultimately, G2 emerged victorious with an unstoppable team composition in game five. However, Schalke showed their strength despite moving to the losers bracket.

Draft Innovations and Pentakills

This series showcased unique picks from both teams across the map. BrokenBlade surprised everyone with the first Darius pick in the LEC since 2018. Although it didn’t succeed in its first appearance, BrokenBlade pulled off an incredible pentakill in game three, saving Schalke from a 3-0 defeat.

Schalke’s ban strategy focused on targeting Rekkles from G2, resulting in ADC-oriented bans throughout the series. With limited options, Neon opted for Jinx as a comfort pick. Despite not being a popular champion in the current meta, Neon demonstrated Jinx’s power in teamfights, helping Schalke even the series at 2-2.

G2’s Unbeatable Composition

In the final game of the series, G2 drafted Seraphine as AD carry and Sion in the top lane. This creative composition proved too tanky for Schalke, making it difficult for their Jinx hypercarry to handle. Wunder, playing Sion, was nearly impossible to kill, leading to Schalke’s defeat and their relegation to the losers bracket.

What’s Next for Schalke 04?

Schalke 04 will now face Fnatic on April 2nd in the losers bracket for a final chance to secure a spot in the LEC Spring Final.
