Riot Games unveils massive map and gameplay updates for upcoming League season

Riot Games Introduces Massive Changes for League of Legends 2020 Season

Riot Games is making significant updates to League of Legends for the upcoming 2020 season. These changes, collectively known as Rise of the Elementals, will bring sweeping modifications to the Summoner’s Rift.

The Elemental Rift System

The prominent change in the game is the introduction of the Elemental Rift system. As teams defeat elemental dragons, the Rift will be permanently altered as one element takes over. This will have a profound impact on how players navigate and strategize across the map.

Interactive Map Changes

Each Elemental Rift will impact teamfights, rotations, vision, and health. For instance, when an infernal dragon is taken down, certain walls will be destroyed and specific brushes will be set ablaze. Mountain dragons will create new terrain, while ocean dragons will increase the size of brushes and the number of fruit spawn points. Additionally, cloud dragons will create wind tunnels, allowing for faster movement across the map.

The Elder Dragon will grant significant late-game power to the team that defeats it. The empowered team will receive an execute ability to eliminate enemies below a certain health threshold.

Additional Map Additions

In addition to the Elemental Rift changes, Riot Games has added new alcoves in the top and bottom lanes and introduced new brushes near the entrances to the blue buff river.
