Riot Games has confirmed that the 2025 season will see a significant reduction in the number of partnered teams in the League Championship Series and in the Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends, with only six of the existing teams participating in the new top-tier regional tournament.
This reduction indicates that two teams will be eliminated from the existing roster, though it has yet to be determined who will leave. Riot will consult with its partner teams to identify the best course forward for the ecosystem later this summer, most likely after the Summer Split concludes.
This move comes after the LCS reduced its lineup from ten to eight teams less than six months ago, and it is linked to the restructuring of the leagues in North and South America.
Riot announced today that starting in 2025, the LCS and CBLOL will be separated into North and South conferences within a single league. Each league will keep six of its current partnered teams and incorporate one club from the LLA depending on geographical alignment.
The Americas League, like the other four major areas, will have a three-split season beginning next year with spots for all three international events.
Riot plans to release more specifics on the team selection process, describe the competitive structure, and provide updates to the tier 2 system across the Americas in the autumn.
