How Misfits Rose to Become the Top Team in the West

Misfits Make a Comeback in the EU LCS

Every year at Worlds, it seems that a team from the EU LCS captures the hearts of Western League of Legends fans. In 2015, it was Fnatic and Origen and their impressive runs to the semifinals. The following year, H2k took up the mantle.

2017 saw Misfits defy expectations by surviving the group stage at Worlds. However, their journey came to an end when they faced off against SK Telecom T1 in the quarterfinals. Despite their loss, Misfits put on a memorable performance and showcased the potential of Western teams.

After a challenging Spring Split, Misfits has made a comeback and reclaimed their position at the top of the EU LCS. So how did they do it? Let’s take a look.

After their Worlds run, Misfits had high hopes of winning the EU LCS. However, they fell short and didn’t even make it to the playoffs last split.

Losing key players like Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage and Lee “IgNar” Dong-geun affected the team’s synergy. Despite the standout performances of Barney “Alphari” Morris and Steven “Hans Sama” Liv, Misfits couldn’t find their stride.

One of the main weaknesses was their new mid laner, Chres “Sencux” Laursen. Sencux had a reputation for struggling in the laning phase, but this split he has turned things around. Not only have his laning stats improved, but the team is also relying on him to carry. In a recent victory over Splyce, Misfits first-picked Irelia for Sencux, and he dominated the game.

Misfits recognized Sencux’s strengths and utilized them to counter their opponents’ strategies. They successfully exploited the weaknesses of a Heimerdinger composition by enabling Sencux to split push and apply pressure.

Another key player who has stepped up this split is support Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle. Misfits found success last summer when their previous support, IgNar, focused on engage supports. Mikyx has seamlessly filled this role and excelled in setting up picks for his team.

While Mikyx’s synergy with Hans Sama can further improve, Misfits is already performing exceptionally well.

After a disappointing Spring Split, Misfits focused on strengthening key positions and harnessing their strengths as a team. Their ability to execute cross-map plays and understand their opponents’ strategies sets them apart.

Their recent win against G2 showcased their discipline and strategic prowess. Instead of relying on flashy plays, Misfits patiently waited for G2 to make mistakes and capitalized on them.

With Maxlore directing their map plays and the rest of the team performing exceptionally well, Misfits is playing at their best.
