The Future of Faker: SK Telecom T1 Mid Laner Enters Free Agency

The LCK free agency period is coming soon, and one of the most anticipated player contracts set to expire is that of SK Telecom T1 mid laner Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok.

As of November 20 at 9am KST or November 19 at 6pm CT, Faker’s contract with SKT will end, making him a free agent. It remains to be seen what Faker’s plans are for this offseason.

Recently, SKT announced the departure of seven players, including notable names like AD carry Bae “Bang” Jun-sik and support Lee “Wolf” Jae-wan. While Faker’s name was not mentioned in the list of departures, SKT has not yet announced whether they will re-sign the renowned mid laner.

For many fans, Faker and SKT go hand in hand. Faker made his professional debut on SKT in 2013 and has spent over five years playing for the telecom giant. During his time with SKT, Faker has achieved numerous international and domestic victories, including three World Championship titles.

This year, SKT’s performance saw a decline. For the first time in the organization’s history, SKT failed to qualify for the domestic playoffs, finishing the 2018 LCK Summer Split in seventh place, their worst placement to date. During SKT’s struggles in the Summer Split, Faker spent a significant amount of time on the bench while mid laner Choi “Pirean” Jun-sik played in his place.

In addition to Faker, other notable LCK players like KT Rolster jungler Go “Score” Dong-bin and KINGZONE DragonX mid laner Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong will also become free agents in the next 24 hours.
