Cracking the Code: How to Counter a Dominant 9-0 LCS Team’s Mid Lane Wukong

Fnatic’s Mid Laner Caps Dominates EU LCS

Rasmus “Caps” Winther, the star player of Fnatic, is making a name for himself as one of the best mid laners in both the EU and NA LCS.

During Riot’s EU LCS livestream, other pro players and Riot analysts suggested that Fnatic’s strategy to defeat the undefeated Misfits would rely heavily on Caps. They believe that getting him fed and letting him carry would be Fnatic’s only hope. Caps’ exceptional skill combined with his tendency to pick unconventional champions in the mid lane promises an exciting game.

Caps’ Unpredictable Playstyle

Repeating the expectations he set for himself last year when he played Kayn mid and took down Misfits’ carry Steven “Hans Sama” Liv, Caps surprised everyone once again by choosing Wukong as his champion. And he successfully dominated Hans Sama. Here’s a comparison of the two assassinations for your enjoyment, starting with last year’s game.

Rare Appearance of Wukong

This was Wukong’s first appearance in professional League of Legends this year, and the first time in the LCS since 2015. Even more impressive, it’s the first pick in the mid lane in five years, with the last time being against Enrique “xPeke” Cedeño Martínez in 2013.

Fnatic’s Team Effort

Fnatic’s success in this game can’t be attributed solely to Caps. The rest of the team, especially Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen and Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov, put immense pressure on Misfits’ mid laner Chres “Sencux” Laursen. This allowed Caps to farm freely, without worrying about dueling in-lane. As the late game approached, Caps made good use of his farmed resources and eliminated Hans Sama with ease.

Let’s eagerly await the champion Caps chooses next to annihilate Hans Sama in the upcoming year.
