Masterwork Research comes with big themed events. These tasks span several pages and can take months to finish. However, the rewards are definitely worth the grind.
Understanding Masterwork Research: Wish Granted
This particular research is themed around the Hoenn region and its Gen III Pokémon. It includes tasks involving Pokémon from other regions as well. For starters, you need to catch 385 Pokémon from the Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn regions and earn a Gold Hoenn Medal.

There are two versions of the Masterwork Research: Wish Granted. One is for those attending the Pokémon Go Fest: Hoenn – Las Vegas on Feb. 18 and 19. This version is shorter, making it a bit easier to get the Shiny Jirachi. If you’re not at the event, don’t worry. The research opens to everyone else starting Feb. 20.
Should You Buy the Ticket?
If you missed the Go Tour: Hoenn – Las Vegas, the research becomes available through a ticket in the in-game shop from Feb. 20 to March 20. You can complete it anytime without a deadline. Tickets cost $4.99. Compared to the event version, this normal version will likely take more time to complete. If you’re keen on getting a Shiny Jirachi and like the rewards, it’s probably worth the $5. Yet, some players are getting tired of ticketed research and might skip it.

The extended Masterwork Research includes tasks like catching 385 Pokémon from different regions and earning a Gold Hoenn Medal. Rewards include XP, Ultra Balls, and more. The rewards become more valuable as you progress. Finally, you get a chance to encounter a Shiny Jirachi!
Event-Exclusive Research
For those at the Go Tour: Hoenn – Las Vegas, the Masterwork Research was shorter with slightly easier tasks. This included catching fewer Pokémon and making fewer Excellent Throws. Rewards were similar but adjusted for the reduced effort required.
