Can Poochyena and Mightyena Appear as Shiny Variants in Pokémon Go?

Poochyena first showed up in Pokémon Go back in Dec. 2017. It was part of a group of Pokémon from the Hoenn region. Since then, it has been common in Team Go Rocket battles. It’s also popping up more in the wild during the Rising Shadows event from May 22 to May 28. This event is special because it brings Shadow Raids for the first time.

Not the Star but Still Worth Catching

Shadow Mewtwo is the main attraction of the event. But this doesn’t mean Poochyena and its evolved form, Mightyena, aren’t worth your time. These dark-type Pokémon add style to anyone’s collection. They fit well for players who like Team Go Rocket’s vibe. If you’re looking for something extra special, you might wonder if Poochyena can be shiny.

Shiny Hunt

Yes, Poochyena and Mightyena can be shiny in Pokémon Go. Niantic introduced their shiny versions in Feb. 2018 during the Lunar New Year event. They’ve been around ever since. Their shiny forms have gold and brown fur instead of the usual colors. And, when Poochyena evolves, the shiny looks stay with Mightyena.

Chance to Shine

Catching a shiny Pokémon is always a game of luck. Every encounter offers a slim chance. But, with more Poochyena out there during the event, your odds are better. This is great news for shiny hunters.

Some fans might feel let down because Stunky and Skuntank, tied to the same event, still don’t have shiny versions. They’ve been around since Oct. 2018. But, there’s a silver lining. Other Pokémon like Ekans, Houndour, Koffing, Marill, and Skorupi will show up more often in their shiny forms too.

Why It Matters

Events like Rising Shadows offer a perfect chance to add rare Pokémon to your collection. Even if Poochyena isn’t the main draw, its shiny version is a cool addition. So, while chasing the spotlight-stealing Shadow Mewtwo, keep an eye out for those different-colored Pokémon. Happy hunting!
