Wunder and Mikyx express their surprise at the LEC’s ascent to the top

G2 Esports Surprised by Europe’s Strength in League of Legends

League of Legends fans and analysts are well aware of Europe’s growing dominance in the esports scene. However, G2 Esports’ Martin “Wunder” Hansen and Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle expressed their surprise at the region’s strength in an interview with CNN Sport.

According to Wunder, after the 2018 World Championships, many considered Fnatic’s performance in the finals and G2’s semi-final finish as flukes. However, heading into the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), Wunder believes that European teams have a better chance at competing against Asian powerhouses.

Mikyx admits that in the past, Korean and Chinese teams were always considered favorites to win international events. However, the rise of G2, Fnatic, and Team Liquid suggests that the East’s dominance may be coming to an end. G2’s innovative drafting, exceptional teamwork, and strong individual play make them strong contenders for the Summoner’s Cup. They have already proven their mettle at MSI 2019 by defeating SK Telecom T1 and reaching the finals.

G2 will be competing in the main event of Worlds 2019, starting on Saturday, Oct. 12. Their first match will be against Griffin, South Korea’s second seed.
