Pokémon Sword and Shield Ranked Series 8 Ruleset Revealed

Pokemon Sword and Shield Ranked Series 8 Ruleset Explained

The Pokemon Company International has recently revealed the ruleset for the Pokemon Sword and Shield Ranked Series 8. This ruleset will govern competitive battles in the online battle format for the next season.

What’s New in Series 8?

In Series 8, trainers can only use Pokemon that have been caught, hatched, or received through official events or distribution in Pokemon Sword and Shield. This means that any Pokemon transferred from previous games or obtained through methods outside of the game are prohibited.

Restricted Pokemon

The Series 8 ruleset introduces a list of restricted Pokemon that cannot be used in competitive battles. These restrictions aim to create a more balanced and diverse metagame. Some of the notable Pokemon on the restricted list include Eternatus, Zacian, Zamazenta, Calyrex, and all of their respective forms.

Game Adjustments

In addition to the restricted Pokemon list, there are also some gameplay adjustments to enhance the competitive experience. For example, previously banned Gigantamax forms, such as Charizard, will now be allowed in Ranked Battles. Additionally, the move “Poltergeist” will no longer impact Pokemon holding a “Choice Band” item.

How Series 8 Affects Competitors

Trainers participating in the Ranked Series 8 will need to carefully review their team compositions to ensure they comply with the new ruleset. With the restricted Pokemon in place, competitors will have to adapt their strategies and find alternative Pokemon to build competitive teams.

By implementing these changes, the Pokemon Company aims to maintain an exciting and fair environment for competitive battles in Pokemon Sword and Shield. All trainers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Series 8 ruleset before jumping into the next season of Ranked Battles.
